RON’S COMMENT: Today’s average is based on five polls, ranging from 48% (Rasmussen) to 59% (Reuters, The Hill). Without these extremes it would be 54%…. Biden’s disapproval rating averages 42% today (+2 from yesterday).

RON’S COMMENT: Half the voters in the NYC Democratic primary remain undecided, according to this poll. Numbers for the top four candidates are much lower than this poll showed in late January; the others are stuck at 2%. McGuire is the only one moving up, and that’s from 2% to 4%…. Incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio is term-limited and can’t run again…. Party primaries are June 22 and the general election is Nov. 2; ranked-choice voting will be used.

GUNS

Which is more important? 

The right of people to own guns: 23%
Protecting people from gun violence: 34%
Both are equally important: 39%

RON’S COMMENT: Note that nearly two out of five voters say both are equally important…. 5% of Democrats, 40% of Republicans and 27% of independents say the right of people to own guns is more important…. 62% of Democrats, 10% of Republicans and 27% of independents say protecting people from gun violence is more important…. The groups most likely to say protecting people from gun violence are African Americans and White women who are college grads…. The group most likely to say the right of people to own guns are White men who are not college grads.

In general, do you feel the laws covering the sale of handguns should be made more strict than they are now? 

Make gun laws more strict: 51%
No change: 29%
Make gun laws less strict: 13%

RON’S COMMENT:  79% of Democrats, 26% of Republicans and 40% of independents say they want to make gun laws stricter.

RON’S COMMENT:  Most voters nationwide view what happened in Atlanta as a “violent crime.” (Responses add to more than 100 because multiple answers were recorded).

RON’S COMMENT: 68% of Democrats, 14% of Republicans, 35% of independents, 76% of Blacks, 41% of Hispanics, 21% of White men without college degrees, 33% of White men with college degrees, 32% of White women without college degrees and 49% of White women with college degrees say there is a great deal of discrimination Black people face in America today.

A great deal: 34%
A fair amount: 36%
Not much: 24%
None at all: 7%

RON’S COMMENT: 55% of Democrats, 14% of Republicans, 30% of independents, 46% of Blacks, 47% of Hispanics, 20% of White men without college degrees, 25% of White men with college degrees, 29% of White women without college degrees and 43% of White women with college degrees say there is a great deal of discrimination Asian people face in America today.
