RON’S COMMENT: Ready or not––and if you’re like me, you’re not––here is the first national poll for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. It shows President Trump beating the field 54-36, which includes his own son and his VP. Excerpt from the poll report:

  • “Nearly 7 in 10 Republican voters (68 percent) said they consider Trump to be more in touch with the party’s rank and file, compared with 20 percent who said the same of Republicans in Congress. Trump was also more likely to be considered effective and committed to the country’s best interests, leading congressional Republicans on both questions by 54 percentage points, 71 percent to 17 percent. Another 56 percent of Republican voters say Trump is predominantly looking out for the party’s best interests.”

The poll also finds that:

  • 69% of Republican voters believe Republicans in Congress respect President Trump.
  • 25% of Republican voters believe Republicans in Congress fear Trump.
  • 72% of Republican voters believe Republicans in Congress listen to Trump.
  • 72% of Republican voters believe Republicans in Congress want to work with Trump.
  • 17% of Republican voters believe Republicans in Congress respect President-elect Biden.
  • 30% of Republican voters believe Republicans in Congress fear Biden.
